The raid ignited protests and riots lasting five days.Ī year after the uprising, the first gay pride marches took place in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco to mark the anniversary. The New York State Liquor Authority initiated the police raid for selling alcohol without a license to known or suspected LGBT people. The New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn early on June 28, 1969. The club was a place to belong, feel valued and be safe for the gay community. The Stonewall Inn was a gay club located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. The Stonewall Riots are considered a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and worldwide. Pride Month is recognized in June because it marks the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. Happy PRIDE Month to every LGBTQIA2S+ student, staff member, and the friends and families that support them!
We are here to teach and nurture the potential in every Round Rock ISD student.
